Chicago in Review
Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States after New York City and Los Angeles, with a population of nearly 3 million people. Located on Lake Michigan in the State of Illinois, Chicago is a wonderful city to explore.
Chicago has fantastic architectural beauty to offer such as the Chicago Tribune Tower, built during 1922-1925, the design being the result of an international competition by the Chicago Tribune that offered a $50,000 prize to design "the most beautiful and eye-catching office building in the world". The amazing Wrigley Building was patterned after the Seville Cathedral’s Giralda Tower in Spain and Chicago’s Sears Tower stands as the tallest building in the western hemisphere. Art lovers should see the great selection of impressionist paintings at the Chicago Art Institute and bargain hunters can shop till they drop in great shopping malls, designer boutiques and outlet stores.
The best time to visit Chicago is during the summer months July and August, when the lakefront is packed with cyclists, joggers and roller bladders and Chicago becomes the stage of the annual Outdoor Film Festival, the legendary Lollapalooza Music Festival and the wonderful Chicago Jazz Festival.
If you have the time, you should venture out into the neighborhoods to enjoy authentic meals in China Town and Little Italy and book one of the tours offered by the Architecture Foundation to Hidepark or Pullman.
Architectural splendor, great shopping opportunities, water fun on Lake Michigan, museums and the tones of jazz and blues make cosmopolitan Chicago the most delightful and cultural experience in the Midwest.
