Muscat Guide: Spend Less, Do More

Welcome to Muscat

Mascat-HarbourWhat we now know as Muscat, the capital of Oman, was once three smaller towns now grown into one. The combination of royal palaces, small fishing villages and diplomacy make Muscat a prime holiday destination. This city is a top destination for both holidays and business, so there are plenty of Muscat hotels to choose from. Travelers may choose between quaint bungalows to luxurious hotels in Muscat.

Top Muscat Attractions

Mascat-Mosque-Domes-at-NightThe recently renovated Corniche Area is a top attraction for those who enjoy walking outside and indulging in affordable eating.

As the Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace acts as the ruler of Oman’s office, this beautiful palace is not open to the public but offers great photo opportunities.

Just 100 km south of Muscat, Wadi Shab is the most spectacular of the wadis in the country.

Eating

Overall, food is pretty cheap throughout Muscat, even at the higher end restaurants. For about a Rial, you will get a meal per person. Remember to be sure to check out some of the local markets and food stalls for a true taste of Muscat. However, the big attraction in Muscat is actually the fresh fruit juice available in a number of cafes, stalls and restaurants.

Muscat Hotels

Depending on what the nature of your holiday is, you may decide to stay in one of the Muscat hotels in one part of the city over the other. Because Muscat was once three different towns, you may want to research on which sections of the city you should stay in, as commuting to different locales can be a bit of a challenge. If you are interested in sightseeing, you may want to stay in the northeast section of town rather than in the central business district. Accommodation in Muscat is plentiful and it is possible to find a range of cheap hotels in Muscat.
