Often dubbed “Pearl of the South”, Phuket is Thailand’s largest, richest, busiest and most popular holiday destination. Limestone cliffs, white sandy beaches, delicious food and marvellous temples, beautiful Phuket has it all.
Wat Chalong, situated in the south of the island behind Chalong Bay, is one of Phuket’s biggest Buddhist temples and one of the major attractions. Right in the middle of Phuket Island, you will discover the fabulous Golden Buddha Temple or Wat Phra Thong, home to a huge half-buried Buddha whose intriguing history goes back centuries.
Whether you prefer to see the fishermen haul in their catch at Rawai Beach, discover a secluded spot on Hat Nai Harn, slurp fresh coconut juice on Yanui or combine sunbathing with shopping in Hat Kata and Hat Karon, Phuket has a beach for everyone. Diving is by far the most popular activity here and Rawai Beach is the ideal gateway for trips to Koh Phi Phi, James Bond Island or the Similan Islands.
Patong Beach is the most illustrious beach resort on Phuket. With its endless variety of activities and nightlife, it is a perfect place to party and play. Patong has a bustling nightlife that comprises hundreds of eating places, chic lounge bars, beer bars, girlie bars and of course clubs and discos.
If you like to spend a day or two strolling through narrow back streets, visit whole-in-the-wall craft shops and galleries, sample street vendor’s food with Indian, Chinese and Arabian influences, picture the nostalgic charm of Sino-Portuguese architecture and spend a night amongst the inviting, ever-smiling locals, you will absolutely love Phuket town.
Eat fresh crab on the beach by candle light, have a miraculous full-body massage, do a yoga session watching the sun set at Phromthep Cape, dance the night away on live ska and reggae tunes and you might just end up staying in Phuket for the rest of your days.
